Botanical and Historical Origin

Southern Europe. Known as 'Pot Marigold', though distinct from the French marigold.

Evolution of Historical Use

Used by the Romans and Greeks as a culinary and medicinal herb. During the American Civil War, it was used on the battlefield to treat open wounds and stop bleeding.

Traditional Cultivation and Harvesting

Easy-to-grow annual. The bright orange and yellow petals are harvested repeatedly throughout the summer to encourage more blooms.
